Elsa Ortega ARBITER

Her arbitration practice as party counsel and arbitrator spans a wide range of industries, including automotive, oil and gas, energy, transportation, financial services, hospitality, food and beverage, mining, and insurance.

In addition, she has served as a professor of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the LL.M. Program in Private Law at the Universidad Anáhuac México School of Law, and currently teaches Arbitration in the LL.M. Program in Procedural Law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho — two of Mexico's most prestigious legal institutions.

  • Chairperson — ICC arbitration seated in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dispute between an Argentine hydrocarbon extraction company and an Argentine natural gas distributor.                                                                                              

  • Chairperson — ICDR arbitration seated in Bogotá, Colombia. Public works contract dispute concerning the construction and operation of eight highway sections.                                                                                                                    

  • Co-Arbitrator — ICC arbitration seated in Mexico City, Mexico. Public works contract dispute involving the construction of dehydrating tanks in the oil and gas sector between two Mexican companies.                                                         

  • Chairperson — LCIA arbitration seated in Mexico City, Mexico. EPC contract dispute concerning the construction of substations and transmission lines in the electricity sector between a major Mexican electricity provider and a Mexican construction company.                                                                                              

  • Sole Arbitrator — ICDR arbitration seated in Miami, Florida, United States. Commercial dispute between a Mexican raw material producer and a U.S. distributor in the food industry.

  • Co-Arbitrator — ICDR arbitration seated in San Francisco, California, United States. Dispute concerning the exportation and distribution of wine products between a U.S. client, a French wine producer, and a Russian individual.           

  • Chairperson — ICDR arbitration seated in Houston, Texas, United States. EPC contract dispute concerning the construction of modular drilling units for the oil and gas industry between a major Mexican oil company and a U.S. manufacturer.                                                                                                         

  • Sole Arbitrator — ICC arbitration seated in Panama City, Panama. Construction dispute involving a Panamanian real estate company, a Salvadoran service provider, and a U.S. building solutions manufacturer.                                           

  • Chairperson — CANACO arbitration seated in Los Angeles, California, United States. International sale of goods claim filed by a U.S. beverage producer against a Mexican sugar mill.
